Harvard Glee Club Foundation: Long may continue our unity and joy!

American West Coast: To the Bay and Beyond!
The men of the Harvard Glee Club have wrapped up their first-ever J-Term Tour and from all the accounts we’ve heard, the triumphant tour of Washington, Oregon, and California was an unqualified success! Reports are flowing in of fantastic concerts and enthusiastic audiences all up and down the left coast. Hearty congratulations to HGC, Tour Manager Keon Pearson and his team, and HGC’s intrepid conductors, Andy Clark and Harris Ipock.
We understand that our New England winter weather did, however, create some travel challenges on both ends of the tour! To read more about the tour, check out HGC’s 2014 J-Term Tour Blog on the Foundation’s website.
San Francisco Regional Sing Also A Smashing Success!
Gleeks, HGC alumni, family, friends, and fans all gathered for a fantastic time of singing, eating, and drinking at the 2014 San Francisco Bay Area Regional Sing & Dinner on Sunday, January 12. The sing and dinner followed a very successful HGC concert at historic Grace Cathedral on Nob Hill. HGC conductors Andy Clark and Harris Ipock led the assembled Gleeks and alumni (and even a few singing guests) in a wide variety of HGC gems between the many courses of the Chinese Banquet at the Four Seas Restaurant in Chinatown. HGC alumni seemed especially pleased to be able to join in singing with current members of the Harvard Glee Club.
One non-HGC Harvard alumnus commented, “To be singing beautiful songs with these immensely talented undergrads and Glee Club alumni, to be singing in their midst, with good cheer in abundance, and with Matt [Hobbs] singing on my left and Norris Childs singing on my right, was a once in a lifetime experience for me.” Clearly glee and good humour were in bountiful supply.
With a wildly successful alumni sing and dinner completed in San Francisco, we turn our attention to the 6th Annual HGCF Alumni Sing & Dinner in Cambridge coming up March 1!
The Jr. Parents Weekend gives us an opportunity to hear HGC and RCS in a joint concert in Sanders Theatre on Friday evening, February 28.
Then, on Saturday, March 1, we’ll again join with some of the men from the current Glee Club for a joint Student/Alumni Sing in Holden Chapel before retiring to John Harvard’s Brewery & Ale House for libations and dinner.
Sostenuto Society Partners Program Makes Giving a Breeze!
We often hear that the end of the calendar year can be a difficult time to make a substantial gift to HGCF. With the holidays and all, sometimes money is tight and donors are not always able to make the kind of meaningful gift they’d like to make.
The Sostenuto Society Partners program solves that problem by allowing donors to sign up for a monthly gift subscription at a wide variety of gift levels. Over the course of the year, those monthly gifts add up to the kind of substantial gift the donor had always wanted to make. Monthly subscriptions start as low as $5.00/month.
This coming May, the Harvard Class of 1989 will gather for its 25th Reunion. The capstone of the weekend’s festivities will be the traditional Saturday evening Boston Pops Concert. This year, the Class of 1989 will be taking the Pops over even more by storm with class member Alan Gilbert at the podium and a number of class members as featured soloists in the concert. The big finale of the evening will be a performance of “Make Our Garden Grow” from Leonard Bernstein’s Candide. Holden Choruses alumni from the Class of 1989 are encouraged to join the chorus for what promises to be a most memorable music-making occasion. Please sign up no later than March 30, 2014 by sending an email to: email@example.com.
